Relocating to a new home in Greece? If you own a piano, a cherished instrument or family heirloom—your move becomes an even more delicate composition. This guide dives deep into the specialised world of piano moving, blending practical know-how with industry insights.
1. Why Pianos Demand Specialist Handling
Pianos are neither ordinary antiques nor just bulky furniture. They’re weighted, unbalanced, and filled with fragile inner workings. According to Steinway & Sons, “The cardinal rule of piano‑moving is never to try to do it yourself… Only professional piano movers have the specialised skills, equipment and experience.”
2. Cost Breakdown
Here’s how costs typically break down:
-
Piano type (spinet, upright, grand)
-
Access constraints: stairs, narrow doors, lifts
-
Required speciality gear: piano board, ramps, climate-controlled trucks
-
Crating, insurance, and customs clearance
3. The Greek-Instrument Challenge
Greece’s mix of historic buildings, cobblestone streets, and tight balconies makes piano delivery uniquely challenging. Narrow flights, uneven surfaces, and unmarked stairs require:
-
Careful route planning
-
Robust protective cushioning
-
Expert veering through space limitations
-
Temporary climate-controlled storage (to prevent moisture or heat stress on wood)
Celebrity’s experienced crews are well-positioned to offer these vital services—shipping, setup, and acclimation in one seamless operation.
